Heuchera villosa 'Spinel' PPAF
Perennial
Height 7"
Spread 14"
The Heuchera FYRE WING™ Series represents a significant breakthrough as the world's first lace-leaf heuchera collection, featuring seven distinct varieties. Heuchera FYRE WING™ 'Spinel' showcases a striking, compact mound of purple-bronze foliage layered with rich wine tones and subtle silver accents. This easy-care perennial provides worry-free, low-maintenance beauty; it is extremely cold hardy, thrives in heat and humidity, stays naturally compact with no structural pruning required, and is a low-maintenance joy. Plus, its small stature allows it to easily tuck into any tight container or garden space.
Water
'Spinel' prefers well draining soil and to dry out between waterings. So before grabbing the hose or watering can, do the 2” test. Simply stick your finger 2” down into the soil. If it’s still moist, hold on watering until it dries down. If it’s dry, you can water.
Fertilizer
This plant doesn’t need very much fertilizer. Simply apply one annual application of a balanced slow-release fertilizer in the spring, paired with a simple top-dressing of organic compost.
Pruning
Because ‘Spinel’ naturally grows as a tight, compact mound, you never need to cut it back to control its size or shape. However, this plant will benefit from a quick Spring clean up to maintain the plant’s health and appearance. With clean shears, simply trim tattered foliage in early spring to stimulate fresh growth.
Spring
Finely divided, Japanese maple-like foliage emerges in deep, sophisticated purple-bronze layered with wine tones. This is the ideal window for a quick spring tidy, effortlessly snipping away any weathered leaves from the previous year to let the fresh new growth shine.
Summer
Subtle flower stems rise above the dark mound, carrying delicate white-to-pale-yellow blooms with shades of white and yellow. Because this variety is notably shy-flowering, the blossoms take a back seat to keep the plant looking exceptionally neat and clean without requiring deadheading or structural pruning.
Fall
The rich, velvety dusk tones and hints of red and silver intensify rather than fading out. The low-growing mound stays structurally pristine, serving as a low-maintenance, worry-free feature that provides a colorful, dramatic anchor for autumn containers and borders.
Winter
Exceptionally cold hardy, this tough variety remains evergreen through the frost. The fuzzy texture on the lace-like, bronze leaves beautifully catches morning frost and dew, creating a glistening, textured effect that keeps your winter landscape interesting.
