Heuchera villosa 'Jet' PPAF
Perennial
Height 7"
Spread 10"
The Heuchera FYRE WING™ Series represents a significant breakthrough as the world's first lace-leaf heuchera collection, featuring seven distinct varieties. Heuchera FYRE WING™ 'Jet' showcases a dramatic mound of nearly black foliage covered in silky, silver hairs, giving it a stunningly reflective appearance. This easy-care perennial provides worry-free, low-maintenance beauty; it is extremely cold hardy, thrives in heat and humidity, stays naturally compact with no structural pruning required, and is a low-maintenance joy. Plus, its small stature allows it to easily tuck into any tight container or garden space.
Water
'Jet' prefers well draining soil and to dry out between waterings. So before grabbing the hose or watering can, do the 2” test. Simply stick your finger 2” down into the soil. If it’s still moist, hold on watering until it dries down. If it’s dry, you can water.
Fertilizer
This plant doesn’t need very much fertilizer. Simply apply one annual application of a balanced slow-release fertilizer in the spring, paired with a simple top-dressing of organic compost.
Pruning
Because ‘Jet’ naturally grows as a tight, compact mound, you never need to cut it back to control its size or shape. However, this plant will benefit from a quick Spring clean up to maintain the plant’s health and appearance. With clean shears, simply trim tattered foliage in early spring to stimulate fresh growth.
Spring
Finely divided, Japanese maple-like foliage emerges in a deep, sophisticated midnight black. This is the ideal window for a quick spring tidy, effortlessly snipping away any weathered leaves from the previous year to let the fresh, silver-blanketed new growth shine.
Summer
Short, reddish flower stems gracefully rise above the dark mound, carrying delicate light pink blooms that create a stunning contrast against the black foliage. The plant naturally maintains its tight, compact shape throughout the summer heat without stretching or requiring any structural pruning.
Fall
The rich, dark tones intensify rather than fading out, as the silky silver hairs on the leaves catch the late-season light. The low-growing mound stays clean and structurally pristine, serving as a low-maintenance, worry-free feature that provides a dramatic, moody anchor for autumn containers and borders.
Winter
Exceptionally cold hardy, this tough variety remains evergreen through the frost. Fine silver hairs on the lace-like, black leaves beautifully catch morning frost and dew, creating a highly reflective, shimmering effect that keeps your winter landscape interesting.
