Heuchera villosa 'Amber' PPAF
Perennial
Height 11"
Spread 12"
The Heuchera FYRE WING™ Series represents a significant breakthrough as the world's first lace-leaf heuchera collection, featuring seven distinct varieties. The Heuchera FYRE WING™ 'Amber' not only features this novel deeply cut, lacy foliage, but also showcases a never before color for Heucheras. 'Amber' is a breathtaking, worry-free perennial that is exceptionally low-maintenance and naturally maintains a neat, compact mound that doesn't need structural pruning. Highly cold-hardy and resilient, it effortlessly delivers year-round dramatic beauty with little fuss.
Water
'Amber' prefers well draining soil and to dry out between waterings. So before grabbing the hose or watering can, do the 2” test. Simply stick your finger 2” down into the soil. If it’s still moist, hold on watering until it dries down. If it’s dry, you can water.
Fertilizer
This plant doesn’t need very much fertilizer. Simply apply one annual application of a balanced slow-release fertilizer in the spring, paired with a simple top-dressing of organic compost.
Pruning
Because ‘Amber’ naturally grows as a tight, compact mound, you never need to cut it back to control its size or shape. However, this plant will benefit from a quick Spring clean up to maintain the plant’s health and appearance. With clean shears, simply trim tattered foliage in early spring to stimulate fresh growth.
Spring
The plant pushes out fresh, densely foliated new growth. The new lacy leaves emerge as a pure, glowing golden-amber. This bright and cheerful pop of color immediately commands attention in the early-season landscape.
Summer
As the weather warms, the foliage develops warm, dimensional copper highlights. During May and June, delicate wiry spikes rise gracefully above the dense mound to showcase clusters of fine white flowers, providing extra texture and attracting pollinators.
Fall
By autumn, the foliage reaches full maturity and undergoes a stunning shift into the harvest season. The bright golden hues deepen into a rich, burnished copper-umber that dominates the plant, making it an excellent standalone specimen or focal blender for fall containers.
Winter
If you live in a mild climate, the unique lace-leaf foliage remains completely evergreen. In colder zones, it acts as a semi-evergreen perennial. The compact, tough central mound persists through the freezing months, keeping rare winter color
