Flower buds begin forming. The flowers emerge in a refreshing lime-white or creamy-green shade, providing cool color as the garden transitions into summer.

The flower panicles transition to a crisp, bright white. Because the stems are exceptionally sturdy, these large blooms remain upright even after heavy summer rains. By late Summer, the white flowers begin their "evolution," blushing into shades of salmon and soft pink.

The blossoms deepen into a dramatic dark pink or rosy-red. The leaves may take on subtle purple or bronze tints before dropping for the winter.

If the flower heads are left on the plant, they dry to a tan or papery bronze color.
