Description

Dark Nebula Lily of the Nile is a non-invasive perennial delivering high-impact style with minimal stress. In summer, dark blue buds open into rich clusters, creating a sophisticated look over glaucous blue-green foliage. This compact, worry-free variety naturally resists pests and disease and thrives in full sun. It is perfect for borders or containers, offering reliable color with minimal effort.

Plant Care

Water

Water regularly; allow soil to dry down between watering.

Fertilizer

Use a balanced fertilizer like 10-10-10 or a formula slightly higher in phosphorus and potassium (potash) to promote strong bud formation and vibrant blue color. Do not use fertilizers with high nitrogen as this encourages lush green leaves at the expense of those stunning blue flowers. Apply your first dose in early spring as soon as new growth starts emerging from the ground. Follow up with a second application mid-summer to support the peak blooming period.

Pruning

Because it grows in a naturally tidy, compact mound, little pruning is necessary. Once the flowers fade, simply cut the flower stalks off at the base. This keeps the plant looking neat and prevents it from wasting energy on seed production.

Seasons of Interest

The plant emerges with fresh, "glaucous" blue-green foliage that quickly forms a tidy, architectural mound.

Dark blue buds appear in mid-summer, opening into large, globular clusters of rich blue flowers.

As flowers fade, the sturdy stems can be left to showcase decorative seedheads, which add structural interest to the autumn garden.
